Support Worker, Paul, shares his Saracen Care journey and how his life has changed as a whole since joining the team.
“I began working with the company in October 2020, after 16 years as a postman and running my entertainment business, Jacko. When the pandemic closed that chapter of my life, my sister encouraged me to try care work, believing I had the empathy to make a difference. Stepping into this role gave me back purpose and pulled me out of a difficult time.
Over the past five years, I have gained valuable experience supporting young adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs. I’ve built strong relationships with individuals, families, and colleagues, while learning patience, resilience, and how to stay calm under pressure. With the guidance of my tutor Simone and my manager at the time, Jade, I also achieved my Level 2 Apprenticeship in Adult Care, despite my own learning challenges. I was nominated and shortlisted for the Unsung Hero award at the Saracen Care Awards evening, in which I was honoured to be nominated.
This journey has changed me both professionally and personally. I now have confidence, pride, and a real sense of purpose in what I do — and I remain committed to growing, learning, and making a positive difference every day.”
